Nutrient Database:
The NutriBase nutrient database includes features you should find useful for web applications:

Every food item in our nutrient database includes a column of information that indicates the food item's major food category. This makes it easy for you to display entire categories of food items. Every food item in the database also includes a column that identifies the subcategory of the food item. For instance, if the major food category is "BEV" and it has a subcategory of "Alcoholic," it makes it simple for you to display all alcoholic beverages for your users. This type of organization facilitates the quick retrieval of entire classes of foods. There are over 200 subcategories of foods in the nutrient database. These two fields allow you to let users view any category of foods that they want to view.

Every food item listing provides four calculated fields called "% Calories from Protein," "% Calories from Carbohydrates," and "% Calories from Fat", and Calories from Alcohol. This facilitates the "apples-to-apples" comparisons of food items (percentages are independent of serving sizes). Every food item also contains fields for Calories from Protein, Calories from Carbohydrates, Calories from Fat, and Calories from Alcohol.

The database provides separate fields for Food Name, Description, and Brand Name. With separate fields for these items, you can - for instance - quickly display all Lean Cuisine products (brand name search) or all food names containing the string "broccoli" anywhere it its food name (food name search). When these fields are combined into a single, very wide field, it becomes more time-consuming to locate any particular item... and in today's web-based applications, data retrieval speed is an important consideration.

The nutrient database we offer provides information for up to 160 nutrient variables for over 37,000 food items.

Licensees are entitled to all the nutrient database updates we release during the five-year term of the license agreement. The NutriBase nutrient database represents over 52,000 hours of collection, assembly, and proofreading. With hundreds of new products appearing on supermarket shelves each month, updating is a never-ending task. Our licensing agreements include a provision for providing you with all updates performed during the term of the license.

Food items that become obsolete in our database are not deleted, the are "retired." That is, they remain in the database but are simply tagged as "retired". This way, your recipes, intakes, meals, meal plans, etc., are not corrupted when food items become obsolete. You can simply continue to use the older food items or you can cross reference them to the newly updated data at your convenience.

The Nutrient Database is accompanied by the documentation that provides the information needed to use the data immediately.
